Dr Feriha Peracha

Dr Feriha Peracha is a clinical neuropsychologist specialised in neuroscience- and psychologically informed risk assessment and rehabilitation/reintegration methodologies. She is the Director and Supervising Psychologist of the Sabaoon centre, which works towards the de-radicalisation, rehabilitation, and integration of former Taliban recruits in the Swat Valley, Pakistan. 242 individuals have undertaken the Sabaoon rehabilitation process. Of the cohort, 237 are assessed as fully reintegrated/at low risk of recidivism, based on psychological profiling and ongoing monitoring.

Dr Peracha has provided training, mentoring and capacity building support to UK and US funded interventions seeking to build on the successes and lessons learnt of Sabaoon. She is currently working on violence and extremism prevention initiatives in secondary schools, madrassas and universities in Swat and Punjab.

Dr Peracha holds a post graduate degree in Psychology from the University of Calgary, Alberta Canada and a PhD in Psychology from University College, London.  She has been awarded fellowships from the UK’s Mental Health Foundation, and twice from The Medical Research Council, UK.
